Rapper Azealia Banks has faced a backlash after saying being gay or trans is not “natural”.

Banks, who has a history of making derogatory remarks, took to X/Twitter on Sunday (27 July) to declare that “being gay and transgender is not actually a natural thing”.

“Science lied to you all and told you [that] you were normal, but being homosexual and on the more extreme end – transgender, in any regard – is in fact a trauma response.

“No one is born gay and no one is born in the wrong body. You guys have mental disorders [and] science is doing you a major disservice by not medicating.”

One person responded by saying: “Well, someone never bothered to advance their own education. It’s well known that homosexuality, both monogamy and polyamory, transgender transitioning and intersex traits are all natural in the animal kingdom, across reptilian, amphibian and mammalian species.”

Someone else wrote: “It’s like you are purposely trying as hard as possible to be the most unlikable person in music.”

A trauma therapist also responded to the tweet, simply writing: “No, it isn’t.”
