The first trailer for Twinless, starring Dylan O’Brien as a twin grieving the loss of his – you guessed it – twin, has dropped, and it’s nudity-filled, unnerving and oddly touching.
The black comedy, which stars Ponyboi lead Dylan O’Brien as both identical twins Rocky and Roman, follows the character after the death of his sibling.
He strikes up an unlikely friendship with Dennis, played the film’s writer and director James Sweeney, when the pair meet in a support group for twinless twins.
The first trailer teases a charming yet slightly unnerving tone for the film, with Roman and Dennis growing closer and closer, though Roman is straight, and Dennis is not.
And yes, O’Brien is – thankfully – topless a lot.
“I hate doing things alone,” Dennis says after the pair meet in the support group. “Whoever invented the fitted sheet deserves to be flagellated. And not the fun kind.”
Roman also introduces Dennis to a very hunky fellow homosexual – but things seem to get complicated when friend Marcie (Aisling Franciosi) asks if Dennis and Roman are dating. “No, we’re just pals.” Classic.
The pair are also seen practicing their squats at the gym while holding each other’s waists. Classic, part two.
The film’s dark underside is also teased when Roman asks Dennis what “the worst thing you’ve ever done” is.
And though the trailer doesn’t show it, there’s the little matter that a gay sex scene between O’Brien and another character in the film leaked online after Twinless premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in January 2025. The scenes were taken down after copyright infringement claims were filed.
Twinless also stars Abbott Elementary‘s Chris Perfetti, Lauren Graham, Tasha Smith, François Arnaud, Susan park and Cree Cicchino.
The queer comedy – which O’Brien described as “the most naked thing I’ve ever done”, received a 5 September US release date in April, via Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate.
No international release date has been given yet, though the film has been sold to Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions.
