Bobby Berk, former interior design expert on Netflix’s Queer Eye, has broken his silence on the show’s cancellation – and the announcement of his new show just a day later.
The long-running Netflix show Queer Eye, which sees the expert Fab Five transform the lives of its ‘Heroes’, was announced in July to be making one last stop in Washington, D.C., after a tenth and final season.
For eight seasons (and a special based in Japan), The Fab Five consisted of beauty guru Jonathan Van Ness, chef Antoni Porowski, culture maestro Karamo Brown, fashion expert Tan France and Berk as the group’s interior designer.
For season nine, following Berk’s departure from the show, Jeremiah Brent took up the post.
And despite reactions from the current slate of experts on the show’s cancellation, Berk had remained silent on the news – until now.
“We had such an amazing run,” Berk told Us Weekly. “Technically, with [the special in] Japan, we did 11 seasons, which is the longest-running Netflix original show ever. And to be a part of that was phenomenal. It was phenomenal, and I can’t wait to see their final season.”

The 43-year-old gave a slightly different account to People, revealing that he was criticised for announcing his new HGTV show Junk or Jackpot? on 10 July – the day after Queer Eye‘s cancellation.
“I have to say, I swear on my mother’s life, my show announcement date was set,” he told the publication. “No, this was planned. Show announcements don’t happen on a whim.”
Berk continued: “I mean, [Netflix] could have easily given me a heads-up on when that was going to be announced. I mean, I was on the show for [eight] seasons, but yeah, it’s fine.”
He even added that Brown reached out after the matter: “[He] was like, ‘Girl, the day after?’ I’m like, ‘No, no, no. I promise you it was already planned.'”
The final season of Queer Eye recently wrapped filming.
Netflix’s Queer Eye is a reboot of the 2003 show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, which originally starred RuPaul’s Drag Race rotating judge Carson Kressley as its fashion expert. It ran for five seasons until 2007.
Queer Eye season 1-9 are available to stream on Netflix.
