Rapper Cardi B is in court after being sued by a security guard following an altercation outside an obstetrician’s office in 2018, and video footage of the star’s wild trial testimony is going viral on social media.
The 32-year-old rapper, real name Belcalis Almánzar, took the stand on Wednesday (27 August) at a small courthouse in the city of Alhambra outside Los Angeles.
The case itself dates back seven years to 24 February, 2018 when Cardi B – who was around four months pregnant at the time – was attending an appointment at an obstetrician’s office in Beverly Hills.
The office’s former security guard Emani Ellis alleged the rapper, who is bisexual, physically attacked her a the hallway whereby she struck her head, face and body, scratched her, spat on her and used racial slurs, subsequently filing a lawsuit for $24 million.
Cardi B denies all the allegations.
During the trial, Cardi B has alleged Ellis followed her to the fifth floor of the building, where her appointment was, and appeared to be filming her. The rapper said she was concerned the footage would reveal she was pregnant, which was not publicly known at the time.
“I told her, ‘Why are you recording?’ and she said, ‘Oh my bad.’ She practically apologised,” she testified.
Cardi B claims the altercation remain solely verbal whilst Ellis alleges it became physical.
“She couldn’t get a scratch from me because I didn’t touch her,” she said.
Despite the seriousness of the claims raised in the case, people following it have been highly amused by Cardi B’s testimony, particularly her blunt comments and exaggerated facial expressions whilst under cross-examination.
