Republican lawmaker John Gillette has called for Democratic congresswoman Pramila Jayapal to be executed because she urged people upset with Trump to protest.
The Kingsman Republican took to X to hit out at Washington Democrat Jayapal, writing in response to a video of her promoting protests against Trump: “Until people like this, that advocate for the overthrow of the American government are tried convicted and hanged.. it will continue.”
The video in which Gillette responded to dates back to March and is part of Jayapal’s “Resistance Lab” – a series that sees her discuss protest movements and non-violent actions.
In the clip, Gillette called for protestors to be “strike ready” and “street ready.” Despite Gillette’s claims, the video made no mention of overthrowing the government and instead focused on “non-violent resistance” to Trump, advising people on how to carry that out.

This is a CLEAR call to violence! @FBIDirectorKash pic.twitter.com/4BTCJBmgcH
Gillette, who advocated for the pardoning of Trump supporters who stormed the US Capitol in January 2021, told the Arizona Mirror that the comment he made on the post had “no hidden meaning” and is “what it is”.
‘This is language that leads to violence’
Assistant House Democratic Leader Nancy Gutierrez told the publication that Gilette “misconstrued” Jayapal’s words “to once again put a target on a political opponent’s back, calling for her to be hanged.”
Gutierrez added: “What will he need to say before Republican leadership in the House takes action? This is language that leads to violence. I’m tired of him putting us and our families at risk.”
Gillette’s comment comes amid concern raised by his Democratic colleagues over his hateful rhetoric. Following Charlie Kirk’s death, Gillette spoke to his fellow lawmakers and placed blame for political violence on Democratic and the left.
He wrote to the 59 other members of the state House: “The tone was set by your party; unity is no longer an option.
“We handed you an olive ranch (sic), and you broke it. Your party invited the radicals to the table and they took over. Now you own them. As the J**s did at Peral (sic) Harbor, Radical Muslims on 911, your party has woken the sleeping giant.”
