The first ever feature film from the RuPaul’s Drag Race universe has added a host of the franchise’s brightest stars to its cast, including Ginger Minj, Monét X Change, Symone, Brooke Lynn Hytes and more.
We know what you’re thinking: Isn’t the ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race universe’ just Earth? And to that we say: yes, and no further questions at this time.
Nevertheless, the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise was announced to be expanding once more last month, not into another global spinoff, but into a “truly unhinged” feature film starring RuPaul as President Gagwell, set for theatrical release in 2026.
The film, which is awaiting a title, dropped an official synopsis upon first announcement, which reads: “Best friends Tess and DeeDee, train stewardesses who trade their dreary shifts on the Stank Rail for the glitzy Glamazonian Express.
“When a catastrophic ‘Stormganza’ threatens to derail the high-speed train and crash it into Los Angeles, the duo in coach must join forces with the snobby first class attendants, and President Gagwell to save the day.”
But now, per Variety, the film from Bleecker Street has added seven dazzling Drag Race alumni to the cast.
Ginger Minj (season seven, All Stars 2, 6 and 10) will play Tess, while Jujubee (season two, All Stars 1 and 5, UK vs the World) will take the role of DeeDee.
As previously mentioned, RuPaul herself will play President Gagwell, but the roles of the uppity first class attendants will be picked up by season 13 winner Symone and season eleven finalist-turned-Canada’s Drag Race head judge Brooke Lynn Hytes.
Marcia Marcia Marcia (season 15) and Latrice Royale (season four, All Stars 1 and 4) will join them. Monét X Change‘s (season 10, All Stars 4 and 7) role is unknown.
The Drag Race film will be helmed by frequent Drag Race guest star and Hairspray director Adam Shankman, and is being written by Connor Wright & Christina Friel, who co-wrote RuPaul’s 2021 Christmas comedy film The Bitch Who Stole Christmas.
It is being produced by Drag Race production company World of Wonder as well as Bleecker Street and Universal Pictures Content Group.
Drag Race producers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, as well as Tom Campbell, RuPaul and Shankman will produce.
The “wild ride of camp and comedy” will hit theatres in North America in 2026. Universal Pictures Content Group has entered an agreement to acquire all international rights to the picture
