Dan and Phil have shared whether or not a child is something they “yearn” for after going public with their relationship.
Last week, the YouTuber pair – Dan Howell and Phil Lester – opened up about the fact they’ve been in a romantic relationship since 2009 in addition to vlogging and working together.
The pair used the opportunity to tease their new podcast which has now launched and is called Hard Launch with Dan and Phil. “An unhinged and unafraid new era of oversharing that they may regret, but can never take back,” reads the podcast’s bio. “Living your truth can be scary, dangerous and messy… but that’s what makes it fun.”

During the first episode of Hard Launch Lester brought up the subject of children asking Howell: “Do we yearn for a child?” Howell seemed genuinely amazed that this had come up, replying: “What the actual f**k?”
The pair then joked around about a “swirl” and using a “rubber” as a preventative measure before Howell identified the pair as “clumsy,” with Lester agreeing to that assessment.
“What, you think you could keep a dog alive? You ready for a child?” asked Howell. Lester then said, “I feel like I would be a great dad, but also a very irresponsible parent.”
Howell then added “I think you’d try and be responsible. I just think that your lack of spatial awareness and poor vision will it involve some kind of horrible accident.”
Lester then said his “yearn metre” was low, leaving Howell to close the segment, OK, cool. So, you brought up this topic to just say, ‘and to confirm, no’.”
Last Monday, Dan and Phil shared a video in their joint YouTube channel where they opened up about being in a relationship for 16 years. The pair, who came out as gay separately in 2019, explained their decision not to put their relationship in the public eye was partly due to Dan’s “homophobic” childhood as well as wanting to be known as a comedy duo.
Afterward the pair thanked people “for everyone’s thoughtful messages and insane s**tposts.”
The couple began living with each other in 2009, and frequently appeared in each other’s YouTube content, as well as publishing content collaboratively. As a duo, Howell and Lester became two of the OG internet content creators, and were prolific in the YouTube influencer era of the early 2010s.
