Stevie Nicks is getting a second Barbie doll following the runaway success of her first, and the latest edition marks an important musical and professional moment for the legendary singer.
Nicks’ first doll was released in 2023 and takes inspiration from the singer’s look on the cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours album, complete with a tambourine. The model sold out twice, with Mattel reporting it to be one of the most popular Barbie Signature dolls of all time.
The new doll, designed by Carlyle Nuera, is based on the singer’s look from the cover of her first solo record, Bella Donna, which was released in 1981. The album is perhaps best known for the hit “Edge of Seventeen.” The doll is dressed in a flowing white gown, white boots and comes with a black top hat.
“I’m just thrilled,” Nicks has told People. “It’s the only good thing since I broke my shoulder,” added the 77-year-old singer, who was forced to reschedule tour dates due to the injury.
“They’re a story of my whole musical life,” the Nicks said of her two dolls, which both capture important moments in her life. “If I have a legacy, if I have ‘What do I leave behind that is sacred?’ I think that it’d be Barbie. Rumours and Bella Donna Barbie are a huge part of what I leave behind when I go on to the next planet.”
The “Edge of Seventeen” singer added: “I’d like to have every outfit that I’ve ever had made into a Barbie doll,” but that “these are the two best ones.” She then said: “They both have their full-on different vibes.”
Reflecting on the decision she made in real-life to distinguish herself as a solo artist from Fleetwood Mac, Nicks told People, “when I did the Bella Donna cover, I said, ‘No. I have to wear the exact opposite. I have to wear all-white.’ … and then I eventually, of course, went back to black.”
Nicks second doll was released on Tuesday (21 October) and is already sold out on the Mattel creations website. Also included in the Barbie Signature line are dolls representing characters from the film, Barbie, as well as Clueless and Mariah Carey.
