The worst person you know just made a great point about Donald Trump following the president’s widely-criticised post about late director Rob Reiner and – unfortunately – it is Marjorie Taylor Greene.
The firebrand Republican from Georgia, who is notable for her controversial views and incendiary comments – but recent apologised for contributing to “toxic politics” – took to X, formerly Twitter, on Monday (15 December) to call out her former idol Donald Trump for vile comments he made about the death of Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner.
Reiner, who credits included The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally, and his wife Michele were found dead with multiple stab wounds in their home in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon (14 December) after police and firefighters were called to the residence.
The couple’s son Nick Reiner, 32, has been arrested following his parents deaths and is being held on suspicion of murder by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

In the wake of the esteemed director’s alleged murder, tributes poured out from the great and good of Hollywood and US politics, including former president Barack Obama and Kathy Bates.
Current president Trump, however, had a wholly different kind of statement to make and on Monday (15 December wrote on his official Truth Social account: “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.

“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before.
“May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
Reiner was a staunch Democrat and in his work outside of the entertainment business he campaigned on behalf of several causes, including LGBTQ+ equality.

Trump’s vile comments were quickly lambasted as “the most disgusting [he] has ever made” and a “monstrosity”.
Amongst his critics was Greene, a former ally of the president who has had a very public falling out with him in recent weeks over the Epstein Files and, as a result, has been pushed from his court of key supporters.
Taking to her own X account on Monday (15 December), Greene penned an unusually measured post in which she called out Trump and expressed the need for empathy in a situation such as the one that has impacted the Reiner family.
“Rob Reiner and his wife were tragically killed at the hands of their own son, who reportedly had drug addiction and other issues, and their remaining children are left in serious mourning and heartbreak,” Greene wrote.

“This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies.
“Many families deal with a family member with drug addiction and mental health issues. It’s incredibly difficult and should be met with empathy especially when it ends in murder.”

The statement from Greene comes as she approaches the date of her resignation from Congress, effective from 5 January.
Greene, who has made a name for herself with her anti-LGBTQ+ views and belief in conspiracy theories –including ones about “Jewish space lasers” and that a malevolent force can control hurricanes – was one of Trump’s most fervent supporters and a fierce proponent of the MAGA movement.
Problems appeared in the two’s relationship amid controversy about the release of the Epstein Files, which Trump promised to publish if he won the 2024 election and returned to the White House.
The Epstein Files refers to the huge raft of documents amassed during criminal investigations into paedophile Jeffery Epstein’s sex trafficking of women and children, and include transcripts, records and items confiscated during raids of the financier’s luxury properties. The content of the files has been the subject of much conspiracy, with many speculating that famous names are listed in the files and speak to a wider sexual abuse scandal in the upper echelons of American society.

However, after winning the election, Trump backtracked on releasing them and even branded them “hoax” – to the outrage of some members of his support base.
Trump, whose relationship with Epstein has been at the centre of controversy and speculation, accused congresswoman Greene of betraying the Republican Party by criticising his administration’s handling of the recent government shutdown – she said it was, in reality, about the files – and in November announced he would not be backing her in next year’s house of representatives elections.
On his Truth Social platform he wrote: “I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of ‘congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the great state of Georgia.” Having also called her a “ranting lunatic”, he said: “All I see ‘wacky’ Marjorie do is complain, complain, complain.”
