Kristen Stewart’s cult lesbian Christmas movie is now streaming for free

‘Tis the season and therefore ’tis also the season for good Christmas movies, which includes Kristen Stewart‘s cult film.

Clea Duvall directed 2020’s Happiest Season. As well as Stewart the film also stars Mackenzie Davis, Alison Brie, Aubrey PlazaDan Levy, Mary Holland, Victor Garber, and Mary Steenburgen.

Stewart plays Abby Holland, a lesbian who has been dating Harper Caldwell (Davis) for a year. Not a fan of Christmas, Abby is invited to spend the holidays with Harper’s conservative family who it turns out Harper hasn’t come out to yet.

Abby goes along with the pretence that she and Harper are both straight roommates and so ensues a series of hijinks including Dan Levy as Abby’s gay best friend, John. Plaza plays Riley, a former partner of Harper.

Plaza previously teased a sequel in 2021 telling fans: “There’s going to be another one.” She also said: “My character deserves love too!”

Happiest Season premiered online during the pandemic on Hulu. The film is not currently available on Disney+ despite Disney’s ownership of Hulu.

However, the film is now available to watch for free on the Channel 4 streaming service. The film is also available to watch at Prime Video but viewers will have to pay.

The film won a GLAAD Media Award in April 2021 for Outstanding Film – Wide Release. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts an 82% rating from critics and a 72% score from fans.

Happiest Season was the first lesbian Christmas romcom produced by a major Hollywood studio, TriStar Pictures.
