Red, White & Royal Wedding, the sequel to Prime Video’s wildly successful queer romance film Red, White & Royal Blue, has finally begun filming in London.

In a 17-second teaser clip posted to the official Red, White & Royal Blue social media pages, stars Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine confirmed that the hotly anticipated sequel is in production.

“Hey guys,” says Galitzine, who plays British royal Prince Henry in the story. “What’s up?” adds Zakar Perez, who portrays Henry’s lover Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of the president of the US.

The short video then cuts between behind the scenes footage of Zakar Perez filming shirtless in a bed and the pair laughing together, before Galitzine says to the camera: “Welcome back!”

The actors then explain the title of the sequel in jest, insisting that the “wedding” at the film’s core is that of Princess Beatrice (Ellie Bamber), Prince Henry’s younger sister.

“We just wanted to clarify, you know?” Galitzine says, before turning to Zakar Perez who signals that the pair’s characters aren’t getting hitched.

“Don’t get confused,” Galitzine adds. “That’s a long way off at this point.”

The teaser video was posted alongside the caption: “We’re SO beyond back. #RWRWedding is officially in production!”

Based on Casey McQuiston’s hit 2019 novel Red, White & Royal Blue, the first film followed Henry and Alex as international figureheads initially at war with one another. Yet, after the prestigious two were forced to spend time together to repair their relationship, they entered into a secret love affair.

The first film, which topped the Prime Video film chart and became an international sensation, ended with Alex coming out publicly, and his mother winning her second term as president. Henry and Alex are then set up to continue life publicly together.

A sequel was initially confirmed in May 2024, with the official title and confirmation that Prime Video had given it the green light arriving in October 2025.

Red, White & Royal Wedding isn’t based on a sequel novel by McQuiston, but they have written the screenplay. The movie will be directed by Jamie Babbit, known for her work on Only Murders In The Building and A League of Their Own, taking over from the first film’s director Matthew Lopez.

At this stage, the plot of Red, White & Royal Wedding hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s likely to focus on the development of Alex and Henry’s relationship now that they have taken their sexualities and relationship public.

A bonus chapter of McQuiston’s original novel, released in 2022 and told from Henry’s perspective, sees the pair living together in Austin, Texas, and engaged to be married.

Alex is pursuing a law degree at NYU Law, while Henry is moving away from his royal duties and focussing more on philanthropy.
