RAYE and Diana Ross have been confirmed as the headliners for Brighton Pride’s Pride On The Park festival, set to take place this August.
Chart-topping “Where Is My Husband?” singer RAYE will take to the stage as the headliner on Saturday 2 August, while “I’m Coming Out” hitmaker Diana Ross will lead the party in a UK festival exclusive on Sunday 3 August.
It’s the third time that seven-time BRIT award-winner RAYE will have performed at Brighton Pride’s festivities, while Ross is making her debut at the LGBTQ+ event.
Ross, 81, is best known as the “Queen of Motown” and as the lead singer of The Supremes. Her mammoth string of hits includes “Chain Reaction”, “You Can’t Hurry Love”, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Upside Down”.
The latter returned to the UK’s official top 40 music chart earlier this year for the first time in 45 years, due to the song featuring in the fifth and final season of Stranger Things.
“Escapism” singer RAYE will be bringing her slew of top 40 hits to the Pride On The Park stage, plus songs from her new sophomore record, This Music May Contain Hope, which will be released on 27 March.
This year’s celebration will mark the 35th anniversary of Brighton & Hove Pride, which began in 1991 as part of the community’s fight back against the implementation of Margaret Thatcher’s Section 28 law. The reviled legislation banned the “promotion” of homosexuality in schools and other local authority institutions, before being abolished across the UK in 2003.
In a statement, Paul Kemp, the managing director of Brighton & Hove Pride, said that he was “beyond thrilled” to be bringing Diana Ross and RAYE to the biggest LGBTQ+ Pride event in the UK.
Securing Ross as a headliner was a “dream come true,” he added.
“Her legendary voice and catalogue of hits will be an unforgettable moment in Brighton Pride history.
“As we proudly celebrate 35 years of Brighton & Hove Pride, we look ahead to an unforgettable weekend that honours the power of love in all its forms.”
RAYE and Diana Ross will be supported by dozens of artists and musicians across the Pride On The Park weekend, with additional names set to be announced soon.
Previous Pride On The Park performers have included Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Girls Aloud and Carly Rae Jepsen.
