Team USA figure skater Alysa Liu didn’t say she doesn’t believe in pronouns, despite claims circulating online.
According to rumours, when asked about the removal of pronouns and pro-LGBTQ+ content from her social media profile, Lui responded: “I was a kid, I don’t believe in that stuff anymore.”
Across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and X, social media users claimed that the Olympian, who won gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics in both women’s singles and in the team event, had addressed backlash to her alleged comment.
However, as reported by Out Sports, although Liu did remove “they pronouns” from her Instagram and pro-LGBTQ+ posts, the quote that is circulating online is fake and originated from @centristpeater on X – an account with a history of making up fake quotes.
Liu has made no public statements addressing the removal of such content from her page, and her pronouns on the US Figure Skating page are listed as she/her.
But insight into the fact she’s still an LGBTQ+ ally came when her friend and fellow Olympian figure skater Amber Glenn, who is openly bisexual and pansexual, shared a TikTok to slideshow of them holding their gold medals, captioned : “They hate to see two woke b****** winning.”
Glenn added: ”If ‘Woke’ means people who use their platforms to advocate for marginalised communities in the country that they are actively representing… Then yeah sure?”
Liu responded in the comment section, writing: “HAAA.”
In February, Glenn shared that she would be “limiting” her time on social media after receiving “a scary amount of hate/threats” for discussing representing the LGBTQ+ community at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
