Scream 7 star Anna Camp has publicly come out as bisexual nearly a year after revealing her same-sex relationship.
The 43-year-old actor spoke her truth during a Tuesday (10 March) guest spot on I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy DiDario, published in a PEOPLE exclusive.
“As a 43-year-old woman, I’m very proud of myself for owning my sexuality at this age,” she said during the podcast.
“I am a very strong person for doing it in somewhat of a spotlight with people criticising and judging and making assumptions. I’m really proud to be bisexual.”
The Pitch Perfect star said she discovered she was queer very recently, saying she had a “major evolution” in her 40s, which she wasn’t afraid of.
“Sure, there are times I feel like I am taking a risk and this is scary, and I’m doing it in a public forum. But to say, ‘No, I only get one life and I want to be happy’, that’s what life is about,” she continued.
Camp made waves in May last year after confirming her relationship with 24-year-old writer Jade Whipkey during a red-carpet event at the premiere of her film Bride Hard. However, she wouldn’t address her sexuality until her appearance on the podcast.
The actor went on to say that the revelation had given her the courage to “continue to evolve and to learn.”
“You think you’ve got this idea of who you are and that’s how your life is going to go. And that’s happened to me several times in my life, where I thought that I knew what was happening,” she said. “It could have stopped in that way. I could have settled. I could have said no, I’m done evolving.”
Camp has previously been married to actor Michael Mosley from 2010-2013. She then married Pitch Perfect co-star Skylar Astin in 2016 before the pair split in 2019.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan in July, Camp said she and Whipkey were surprised by the wave of support and attention after they publicly revealed their relationship, but were grateful nonetheless.
“We’ve been a bit surprised by all of the hubbub, but there’s been a lot of support so we’re very grateful and thankful for everybody who is supportive of us. It’s lovely,” she said at the time.
