The Sound of Music icon Dame Julie Andrews has made a rare public appearance to raise awareness for Parkinson’s, in a video for World Parkinson Coalition.

The actress appeared in a YouTube video, which has since been removed, to promote the seventh annual World Parkinson’s Congress conference.

In it, she introduced herself before saying: “Your participation is invaluable as we seek to find a cure to this terrible disease. I know well how devastating it can be.”

She continued: “May we all become a beacon of light to stop it in its tracks. Count me in as a red thread. Thank you.”

Her message references the organisation’s Red Thread Project, aiming to provide community to those living with or impacted by Parkinson’s.

While Andrews, 90, rarely appears in public any more she is still active. She continues to voice Lady Whistledown in Netflix smash Bridgerton and has also done voice acting for the likes of Minions: The Rise of Gru and Aquaman in recent years.

It remains to be seen whether or not she will return to The Princess Diaries for its recently confirmed third film.

Andrews also works closely with her eldest daughter Emma Walton, with the duo set to release a new children’s book called Shy. The picture book is available for pre-order ahead of its release on 11 August, 2026.

The star has written a number of books over the years, many with Walton, including her 2019 autobiography, Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years.
