Barry Manilow announces break after ‘pushing a little too hard’ on tour

Barry Manilow has announced a break from performing after cancelling shows, telling fans he and his team had been “pushing a little too hard” following a packed run of dates.
In an Instagram update, the 83-year-old said: “Hi everybody – Barry here. And I want you to be the first to know that we’re going to have to take a quick break.”
He added: “We just finished a fantastic summer tour. 29 shows in 68 days.” Manilow continued: “The shows were fantastic. The audiences were fantastic. And I sounded fantastic. But it seems that we were pushing a little too hard.” He also joked: “Now we all need to sit down and shut up.”
Out gay singer Manilow said the break will last until he returns to Las Vegas on 8 October.
Some performances at Westgate Las Vegas’ International Theater were cancelled. He said on Instagram it was “due to technical and vocal problems”.
Over summer 2026, Manilow performed across the UK and US, including dates in Ohio and Florida and UK cities such as Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool (where he was approached by a stage invader), Cardiff, Birmingham and London.
Barry Manilow’s health issues
In recent years, Manilow has had a number of health issues.
In December last year, he revealed a “cancerous spot” had been found on his lung and he would be undergoing surgery to remove it.
He said on Instagram at the time: “As many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.”
Doctors then discovered a “cancerous spot on [his] left lung that needed to be removed”. He praised the doctor for finding it “so early”, explaining they didn’t believe it had spread.
He finished: “So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”
