Vanessa Williams’ Desperate Housewives co-star Teri Hatcher to take over Devil Wears Prada role

Teri Hatcher will replace her Desperate Housewives co-star Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly in West End production of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical.

The production’s Instagram confirmed Hatcher will begin performances on 20 October 2026, with her run currently scheduled to end on 6 February 2027. Williams is set to leave the show in September, with Debbie Kurup covering Miranda in the interim.

Speaking to Hello! magazine, Hatcher said: “I’ve experienced and grown so much, and I get to bring all of that into my Devil Wears Prada performance.

“I feel like this is a gift for me, to arrive into a Teri Hatcher that I haven’t got to be yet, and I’m so excited for it.”

Hatcher’s daughter Emerson saw Williams in the London run and persuaded her to do it, telling her: “You’re going to have so much fun.”

West End milestones for The Devil Wears Prada

Williams originated Miranda Priestly in the West End production in December 2024. The show is approaching its 800th performance on 23 September, and has sold over 1.2million tickets.

The musical is scheduled to run at London’s Dominion Theatre until September 2027.

Hatcher is best known as Susan Mayer in ABC’s Desperate Housewives (2004–2012), and also played Lois Lane opposite Dean Cain in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in the 1990s. She appeared as Bond girl Paris Carver in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), and has stage experience including musical theatre roles.

Williams is an American singer and actor with a long career spanning music, TV and theatre, and has spoken about how her take on Miranda in The Devil Wears Prada is “not Meryl Streep”.

The ladies appeared on Desperate Housewives together when Williams joined for the final two seasons from 2010 to 2012.
