Simon Bird’s long-running hit Friday Night Dinner

Simon Bird, who played Will McKenzie in The Inbetweeners (2008–2010), went on to play Adam Goodman in Channel 4’s Friday Night Dinner (2011–2020). The sitcom also starred Tamsin Greig and Paul Ritter as Adam’s parents, keeping Bird at the centre of a long-running family comedy.


Joe Thomas swapped sixth form for Fresh Meat

Joe Thomas played Simon Cooper in The Inbetweeners (2008–2010), then took on Kingsley Owen in Channel 4’s Fresh Meat (2011–2016). Fresh Meat was created by Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, giving Thomas a new ensemble role beyond sixth-form chaos and awkward crushes.


Blake Harrison went dramatic in World on Fire

Blake Harrison, best known as Neil Sutherland in The Inbetweeners (2008–2010), appeared as Stan in the BBC war drama World on Fire (2019–2023). The series stars Helen Hunt and follows civilians during the Second World War, placing Harrison in a more dramatic setting than the show’s school corridors.


Greg Davies became TV’s Taskmaster

Greg Davies played teacher Mr Gilbert in The Inbetweeners (2008–2010), then became the Taskmaster on the comedy panel show Taskmaster (2015–present). Created by Alex Horne, the series puts Davies in charge as contestants tackle chaotic challenges and face his deadpan judgement.


Emily Head’s post-Carli turn in The Syndicate

Emily Head, who played Carli D’Amato in The Inbetweeners (2008–2010), appeared as Rebecca in the BBC drama anthology The Syndicate (Series 2, 2013). Created and written by Kay Mellor, the series gave Head a fresh role away from teen comedy and school-gate storylines.


Hannah Tointon’s Derek role after The Inbetweeners

Hannah Tointon played Tara Brown in The Inbetweeners (2008–2010), then played Hannah in Ricky Gervais’s comedy-drama Derek (2012–2014). Created by and starring Gervais, the series put Tointon into a very different ensemble, with a warmer tone than the sitcom’s cringeworthy set-ups.


Belinda Stewart-Wilson, the iconic Inbetweeners mum

Belinda Stewart-Wilson played Polly McKenzie, Will’s mum, in The Inbetweeners (2008–2010), and also appeared in The Inbetweeners Movie (2011). Beyond the franchise, she has appeared in long-running British soaps including EastEnders and Doctors, showing up in familiar UK TV settings.


Martin Trenaman popped up in Netflix’s After Life

Martin Trenaman, who played Simon Cooper’s dad in The Inbetweeners (2008–2010), appeared in Ricky Gervais’s Netflix series After Life (2019–2022). Created by and starring Gervais, the show’s mix of grief and comedy makes Trenaman’s later appearance a recognisable spot for sitcom fans.


Alex MacQueen’s political satire turn in The Thick of It

Alex MacQueen played Neil Sutherland’s dad in The Inbetweeners (2008–2010), and took on Julius Nicholson in the BBC political satire The Thick of It. Created by Armando Iannucci, the series gave MacQueen a sharper-edged comedy space far removed from suburban family scenes.


David Schaal’s earlier comedy credit in The Office

David Schaal played Jay Cartwright’s dad in The Inbetweeners (2008–2010), and also appeared in the BBC comedy The Office (UK) as a warehouse worker who is Finchy’s friend. The Office (UK) was created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, and remains a touchstone of British sitcom TV.


James Corden’s US talk-show takeover after Inbetweeners

James Corden appeared in The Inbetweeners as a character connected to the school in a guest role, then went on to host The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS from 2015 to 2023. He also co-wrote and starred in the BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey (2007–2010; 2019; 2024).


Laura Haddock went Marvel after The Inbetweeners

Laura Haddock appeared in The Inbetweeners Movie as Will’s love interest, though she did not go on to appear in the second film. She then played Meredith Quill in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017). She also appeared in the BBC series What It Feels Like For A Girl, an adaptation of trans activist Paris Lee’s memoir.
