Michael Sheen has said he has given away almost all the money he has earned, despite being “very lucky” to make a lot of it.
The 57-year-old Welsh actor made the comments in an interview with Saga magazine, where he reflected on how his attitude to wealth has barely shifted since he was a teenager. “At 18, I didn’t care whether I had money or not,” Sheen said.
The Celebrity Traitors star added: “I’ve been very lucky that I’ve been able to earn a lot of money, but either on purpose or accidentally, I’ve ended up giving pretty much all of it away.”
Sheen also said he still “couldn’t care less about material things”, while stressing he does want security for the people closest to him.
“I want to make sure my family are all right and we’ve got a roof over our heads and all the rest of it, but I do feel the same way at 57 as I did at 18 about this,” he said.
It’s reported that Celebrity Traitors cast members get paid a flat rate of £40,000 to appear.

‘My experience of life is completely different for having been a parent’
Sheen also spoke about how his outlook has changed with age, particularly through becoming a parent, saying: “My experience of life is completely different for having been a parent.”
He is a father-of-three to Lily Mo Sheen, 27 (with Kate Beckinsale), Lyra, six, and Mabli, four (with his partner Anna Lundberg).
Sheen’s net worth has been estimated to be between $8-16million (£6-12m) previously, though it’s unlikely to be an accurate figure if he has given “pretty much all of it” away.
Michael Sheen as a ‘not-for-profit’
Sheen has previously described himself as “not-for-profit”, selling property to finance a homelessness project, and also using £100,000 of his own cash to anonymously help clear strangers’ debts.
He has also been vocal in public debates around equality and social issues. In 2021, Sheen confronted the Salvation Army over its notoriously anti-trans reputation after some LGBTQ+ fans criticised a donation he made to the organisation.
As well as starring on the latest series of The Celebrity Traitors, he is also fronting House of Games, also on the BBC, after previous host Richard Osman stepped down.
