Police need your help to catch killer of gay man
Manchester police are appealing to the city’s gay community to help them with their investigation into the murder of 24-year-old David Brown in Hulme.
They have released CCTV footage of the last time he was seen alive and are appealing to witnesses to help them catch his killer.
David had been on a date in Manchester City Centre on Thursday 20 September 2007, exactly a week ago today.
He visited several bars that night, before going to Cruz 101 on Princess Street at about 12.30am.
Once inside the club, David and his date went their separate ways and police are keen to speak to anyone who saw or spoke with David in the club.
David is captured on CCTV leaving the club alone just before 2.30am.
Officers are urging anyone who saw David leaving and who could help them to piece together his movements after this point to contact them.
His body was found outside the door to his flat at 7.30am on Friday morning. He had been stabbed several times in the leg and a post mortem examination revealed that it was a stab wound to his left thigh, which actually killed him.
Officers can not rule out the possibility that David may have been attacked at another location and managed to get as far as his front door, but died on his own doorstep.
Officers will be in Manchester Gay Village tonight handing out leaflets to appeal to anybody who may have seen David and could help them piece together his movements after he left the bar.
Detective Chief Inspector Pete Jackson from Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team said:
“Tonight, and into the early hours of tomorrow morning, officers will be in and around the Gay Village, speaking to people and handing out leaflets appealing for information.
“It will be exactly a week since David’s last night out that ended so tragically and we are hoping that people who regularly go out and socialise there will think back to this time last week and let us know if they saw David either in one of the pubs or clubs, or after he left Cruz 1010 and begun to make his way home.
“We need people to help us catch David’s killer and any information or sightings of David that night might just provide us with that vital lead.”
Anybody with any information is asked to contact the Incident Room on 0161 856 3691 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
David’s thirteen-year-old half brother Samuel Barton has set up a website in memory of him and in the hope that his killer will be caught.
