Gay airport guard awarded compensation in sexual harassment case
A gay airport employee who was sexually harassed by a female colleague was today awarded almost double the compensation expected.
Allwyn Rondeau, 46, from Feltham, told an employment tribunal how colleague Lucy Chilton had created an “offensive environment” for him by persistently making comments about his sexuality and inappropriate gestures.
Mr Rondeau says that Miss Chilton, 42, placed his hands on her breasts and said that he “wouldn’t know what to do with a woman,” “come on, give it to me,” and calling him “batty boy.”
When he rejected her advances, Miss Chilton accused Mr Rondeau of harassing her and he was suspended from work.
On hearing that she had behaved in similar way towards other men at work, however, Mr Rondeau decided to speak out.
Today, Mr Rondeau was awarded £62,525 in compensation, which is double the figure expected when the tribunal began.
He told the Daily Mail: ‘I’m pleased about it but it wasn’t the money that was important.
“It was justice that I wanted, against her and the management, for what I have been through every day for the past two years.
“I’m happy but I’m still angry because I know she has not been touched. She has been promoted.
“I had to endure one-and-a-half day’s of cross-examination and when you’re not very well it’s not very nice to go through.”
