Brighton will not receive funding to assist homeless LGBT people

Brighton & Hove City Council has voted against spending money on improving services for LGBT homeless people.

At the council’s annual budget setting meeting, Green Party councillors proposed an amendment which would have seen the council take up the Albert Kennedy Trust (AKT) national Quality Assurance Mark for £3,000.

The affiliation would have provided training sessions for staff on how to deal with the issue of LGBT people living on the streets.

However, it was rejected by Conservative councillors.

Cllr Bill Randall, who spoke to the amendment for the Greens, said: “For a modest amount of money, the AKT could bring their expertise to Brighton and Hove and improve services for this vulnerable LGBT Group.”

Green councillors will propose a Notice of Motion at the full council meeting asking the council to work with AKT on the 19th March.
