‘Milk’ voted gay film of the decade
‘Milk’, the story of US gay rights hero Harvey Milk, has been voted the gay film of the decade.
A Stonewall poll of 800 people put the biopic in the top spot.
The film, directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Sean Penn, was commended for its realistic portrayal of gay people.
In second place was ‘The Kids Are Alright’. Starring Julianne Moore and Annette Bening, the film was commended for depicting a warm, loving family headed by a lesbian couple.
‘Brokeback Mountain’ was in third place, while ‘A Single Man’ and ‘The Hours’ followed in fourth and fifth place respectively.
Cleve Jones, who was played by Emile Hirsch, in ‘Milk’ said: “This is a fantastic achievement for ‘Milk’. As someone who was depicted in the film, I feel very proud that gay people are saying it’s the most significant film for them in the last decade – it shows that the campaign for full gay equality has reached a whole new generation of people, which gives me real hope.”
