Video: Character from hit CBBC series Wizards vs Aliens comes out as gay

A lead character in a hit CBBC series has come out as gay to his best friend in a touching scene.

The character Benny comes out to his best friend Tom in last night’s episode of the show Wizards vs Aliens.

In the scene, he says he is “equal and opposite”, saying “I’ll go on a date one day, just not with a girl”.

Tom responds to say “That’s brilliant”, to which Benny says: “It’s not brilliant, it just is.”

When he is asked why he didn’t say, he said: “It’s the sort of thing you say at the end of the world”. Tom replies: “You can say that sort of thing any day of the week.”

The scene ends with Tom saying that he is going to save the planet so Benny can finally go on a date.

CBBC, and Wizards and Aliens have been praised for the depiction of the character’s coming out.
