Bournemouth fan evicted for making anti-gay chants during Brighton match
A Bournemouth football fan ended up being evicted from Brighton and Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium due to alleged homophobic chanting.
Officers confirmed the incident took place as Brighton played at home to Bournemouth on New Year’s Day.
The individual concerned was among 1,668 spectators in the Bournemouth section of the crowd.
He was subsequently removed from the stadium.
In August, Caroline Lucas, the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, urged the Football Association to take action against anti-gay abuse faced by Albion fans. Research in May found Brighton fans were on the receiving end of homophobic abuse at 57% of all matches.
Rival fans have long mocked Brighton supporters because of the city’s famous LGBT heritage.
