Lord Mayor of London to give Sir Ian McKellen freedom of the city
Sir Ian McKellen was welcomed by the Lord Mayor of London as guest of honour to a Pride in London gala dinner this week, as it was revealed that he would be given the freedom of the city.
The dinner, which took place at Mansion House, was hosted by Lord Mayor Fiona Woolf, who noted in her keynote address that homophobia is still prevalent in the City, but that diversity must be accepted if businesses are to thrive.
She also announced that Sir Ian will receive the Freedom of the City later in 2014.
