Wikipedia holds Pride ‘edit-a-thons’ to improve LGBT-related content
Wikipedia has launched a series of editing events,Ā to improve LGBT-related informationĀ across the website.
Beginning in June, states around the US began hosting edit-a-thons, gatherings where individuals congregate to edit Wikimedia projects to include a wide variety and grater scope of LGBT related information.
The page āWiki Loves Pride 2014ā says about the campaign: āOne of the aims of Wiki Loves Pride will be increasing the number of people and perspectives contributing to LGBT information on the site, as well as encouraging institutions to add their authority information, research and images to the public domain.ā
Wikipedia has focused this celebration of pride around June and October, ā[ā¦] traditionally the months when lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities around the world celebrate LGBT culture and history.ā
India is hosting edit-a-thons on 19 July in Bangalore and New Delhi, the only country other than the US to register an event with Wikipedia.
