LGBT Leaders conference to be held tomorrow
A number of high-profile speakers are set to attend a conference aimed at encouraging LGBT student leaders.
The LGBT Leaders conference will take place in Canary Wharf tomorrow, for students interested in a career in the law, business, or politics.
Speakers at the event include former Labour MP Chris Smith, former BP boss Lord Browne, Newsnight host Evan Davis, activist Peter Tatchell, MEP Seb Dance and PinkNews CEO Benjamin Cohen.
Eurovision diva Conchita Wurst will deliver a message of welcome to open the conference, while MEP Ulrike Lunacek – Vice President of the European Parliament – has recorded a special video message.
Leading businesses including PwC, Clifford Chance, Bain and Freshfields will also give attendees tips, through CV surgeries and skills sessions.
Conference organiser Cai Wilshaw said: “We really hope that this conference will be an opportunity for LGBT students to meet others similar to them from all across the country, and learn from the incredible line-up of speakers we have.
“We’ve been very lucky to have such support from our host Clifford Chance, as well as a huge array of other sponsors and organisations such as LGBT History Month and the Fulbright Programme who have made this event possible. Students will come away from the conference inspired by the success of our speakers, and empowered to do the same.”
Lord Browne said of the conference: “Too many LGBT students re-enter the closet when they start their careers. Gatherings like this demonstrate why that is the wrong thing to do, and why authentic leadership from the very beginning is the route to success.”
