Caitlyn Jenner reveals she considered suicide before transitioning

Caitlyn Jenner has opened up about struggling with suicidal thoughts, before she made the decision to transition to female.

A shocking number of transgender people attempted suicide due to dysphoria and persecution, with polls finding that close to half of young trans people attempted to end their lives.

Former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner – who became the highest-profile trans woman in the world when she came out earlier this year – opened up about her own battle on documentary series I Am Cait.

She said: “I’ve been in some dark places, I have been in my house with a gun and said, ‘Let’s just end it right there, no more pain, no more suffering. That struggle, it’s real and I’ve been there.”

“I was an isolationist, I isolated myself from the world because I didn’t fit in, I was kind of stuck in the middle.

“Caitlyn fits into society better than Bruce.”

Jenner received a standing ovation last week at the ESPY Awards, as she walked on stage to accept the Arthur Ashe Courage Award in what was the star’s first major public appearance as a transgender woman.

However, the decision to award Jenner with the ESPY Award has been criticised since it was announced, with some claiming that war veteran Noah Galloway was “runner up” for the award.

Those claims have been disproven, as ESPN confirmed that there is no runner up.
