Why is this woman with lesbian mums campaigning against gay marriage?
This daughter of two lesbians is trying to get the Australian Government to reject equal marriage.
Katy Faust, an American, has travelled to Canberra to lobby the Australian Government to remain opposed to same-sex marriage.
The woman, who converted to Christianity in high school, runs a blog called āAsk The Bigotā. It is described as: āA place where ideas, not people, are under assault.ā
The blog includes a post supporting fashion duo Dolce and Gabbana, who are gay themselves, but who were heavily critised for referring to children born via IVF as āsyntheticā ā leading Sir Elton John to call for a boycott.
Another describes Ellen DeGeneres coming out as āa bomb having gone offā, and a third refutes studies which have found that children are just as well of if raised by gay parents as if they are raised by a man and a woman.
āWhile my mother was a fantastic mother and most of what I do well as a mother myself I do because thatās how she parented me, she canāt be a father. Her partner, an incredible woman ā both of these women have my heart ā cannot be a father either,ā says Faust.
She claims to have been contacted by the children of gay parents who have voiced their agreement with what she thinks.
āThereās several children that have contacted me even since I started writing about this, saying āI agree with you, but Iāll never come out and speak about this publicly because my relationship with my parent is too tenuousā.ā
āBecause thereās a fierce protectiveness I think that all children have for their parents, but what I was delighted to find when I read Scripture is that God has an incredible heart for the orphan and that heās very concerned with the plight of children.ā
Continuing, she said: āChildren have rights ā¦ the onus needs to be on adults to conform to the rights of children rather than children fitting into an adultās lifestyle. And certainly, I donāt think that homosexuals are responsible by any means for the crisis that we face in America when it comes to family structure these days. Absolutely, heterosexuals have led the way on that charge.ā
āI wouldnāt be having this interview with you today, because I never intended to be involved in the legal fight, but because I was outed in the name of love and tolerance, I am talking with you today.ā
