The director of Bond film Quantum of Solace has weighed in to a discussion about whether the famous womanising character could romance men.

Pierce Brosnan, who played the iconic spy from 1995ā€™s GoldenEye to 2002ā€™s Die Another Day, recently caused a storm when asked that Bond could be portrayed as gay or bisexual.

He initially said: ā€œSure. Why not?ā€, before adding: ā€œI donā€™t think [the producer] would allow a gay Bond to happen.ā€

The director of Daniel Craigā€™s 2008 Bond film, Quantum of Solace, has also weighed in.

Marc Forster, who helmed the critically-panned instalment in the franchise, told BANG Showbiz that the films must remain faithful to the original Ian Fleming novels.

He said: ā€œI think with the history of Bond and how it is, it feels like itā€™s more of a spin off in that case than the original Bond.

ā€œI think thereā€™s a traditional ā€¦ you know, how Ian Flemming saw the books, and I think you should honour Ian Flemmingā€™s vision for Bond.

ā€œ[You should] try and make it the interpretation of the original author.ā€

Current Bond Daniel Craig is contracted to do one more film after this yearā€™s Spectre, and is expected to depart the series.
