A new Mr Gay World has been crowned, after his predecessor stepped down last week for personal reasons.

Emmanuel Mass Luciano was crowned Mr Gay World, after 21-year-old German winner of this year’s Mr Gay World title Klaus Burkart, stepped down.

Burkart said his “personal changes” made him unable to “live up to the expectations and serve the community.”

21-year-old Burkart, who was described as a “milk technician”, won the competition in South Africa in May.

At the time he said he had plans to visit schools and tackle homophobia.

Now Luciano, the winner of the Hong Kong branch of the competition, the first runner up in the competition has now been handed the coveted sash.

The 35-year-old, speaking ahead of the competition, says: “I’m very excited to represent Hong Kong and show the world how diverse our city and LGBT Community is. It’s a great opportunity to promote equality within our community… we’re not only gay men, but also lesbians, transgender and bisexual, and united we can strive for equality and achieve a better quality of life.

“I believe this is a message that can translate well on a global stage and I hope that becoming Mr. Gay World 2015 will inspire others to be themselves; it’s okay to be different, it’s okay to be gay… why fit in when you can stand out!”

The fashion designer, stylist and blogger, says he likes cuddling with his dog, going out with friends and meeting new people.

“I know he will be a great representative for our community, who will put all his heart and passion into his reign,” Burkart wrote on Facebook.
