North Carolina’s Governor apparently doesn’t get it
North Carolina’s Governor, Pat McCrory, has shown no concern over the backlash a statewide bill that withdrew LGBT rights has faced.
Mr McCrory, who is up reelection this year, has said that outcry over a law that repealed LGBT protections in Charlotte and bans any LGBT rights protections across the state, is “political correctness gone amok”.
In an interview with NBC News, the Governor said people’s anger was nothing more than “well coordinated political theatre” and that “no one’s rights had been taken away”.
In a remarkable contradiction, he said that it wasn’t his place or anyone in government’s place to tell businesses who they let use facilities, to then, in the same sentence, say he was doing just that in schools and colleges.
“We have the exact same rules and rights as 25 other states and all of a sudden this national political directed towards North Carolina, I think is well coordinated and more political theatre than reality,” he said.
When compared to a similar law that was introduced in Indiana that also received national attention, he added: “There is a branding effort by the advocates pushing this agenda, which are trying to compare North Carolina with the Indiana and there is absolutely no comparison.
“This had to do with government overreach and allow men to be in women’s, girl’s restrooms or shower facilities.”
“It’s political correctness gone amok,” he laughed.
Yesterday, it was revealed that the Governor couldn’t name a single business that asked or wanted his anti-gay law.
