Will Young: I had to come out twice

Will Young has said he had to come out twice.
Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women, the British singer said: “I came out twice.”
When the panel responded with shock, he explained: “I came out personally, and then when I became famous I had to do it again.”
He said that his record company didn’t attempt to dissuade him from going public with his sexuality, but that during his run to the Pop Idol crown in 2002, people tried to persuade him against coming out.

Christopher Sweeney, Young’s co-host on his podcast Homo Sapiens, also revealed that their ability to get Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn on the show was at least partly down to PinkNews.
“Will met him at a PinkNews event and – I’m going to say harassed him,” Sweeney said.
Young admitted: “I harassed him. I harangued the Labour Party. It took about nine months.”
London mayor Sadiq Khan reached out to Young last month after he was targeted with vile homophobic abuse by a bus driver.

The star was left shocked after the incident in which a Transport for London bus driver reportedly called him a “poofter”.
Despite reporting the incident within minutes, Young was left helpless after being told it was too late to get CCTV of the incident.

The Mayor of London’s office responded to the singer’s calls for help days later.
A spokesperson said: “The Mayor’s Office are in touch with Will Young in regards to this incident and the work being done across the TfL network to tackle all forms of abuse including homophobic hate crime.”
The singer opened up last year about his battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The singer and actor quit Strictly Come Dancing in 2016 after struggling with his mental health.
He lasted just a few weeks on the show as he battled against the condition, but said a year on that he had “learned to live” with PTSD.
Young has also spoken about struggling with a gay porn addiction.
