This bisexual Marvel star’s posts about stealing your girl have gone viral

Bisexual actress Dove Cameron has gone viral with posts indicating that she was on her way to steal your girl, and has now succeeded.

The 22-year-old star, who came out last year by liking a tweet asking her to “like this if bisexual,” has spent the past few months starring in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as Ruby, one of the show’s main antagonists.

And it turns out she has also been biding her time.

Eight months ago, in August, Dove posted a photo on Instagram of herself on a motorbike, with a caption commonly used in memes that said she was “omw” – on my way – “to steal your girl.”

It seems she wasn’t kidding.

On Wednesday, the Disney actress, who has also starred in Descendants and Descendants 2, released the long-awaited sequel to her original post.

Under a picture of her posing on a different motorbike with 34-year-old Canadian actress Louise Hradsky – who also starred in the Descendants films – she wrote: “update: stole your girl.”

Amazing.

The first post racked up more than a million likes, while the follow-up has attracted more than 700,000 – and climbing.

Marvel – and Disney, the corporation which owns Marvel – has attracted criticism for its extreme reluctance to include LGBT people in its films.

A scene in Thor: Ragnarok confirming that superhero Valkyrie was bisexual was shot, but mysteriously edited out.

The Black Panther comics have depicted a lesbian relationship between warriors Ayo and Aneka – but a scene hinting at the romance was allegedly dumped from Ryan Coogler’s 2018 film adaptation.

And Star Wars execs are more than happy to encourage queer fans’ speculation about a romance between fan favourites Finn and Poe – while they rush to introduce heterosexual love interests.

This is despite the Disney Channel – where Dove starred on teen sitcom Liv and Maddie – featuring multiple LGBT characters, including the groundbreaking Cyrus Goodman on Andi Mack.

And Marvel’s Runaways has a lesbian superhero, in the shape of Karolina Dean, a main character who slowly realises her sexuality while also figuring out her powers.

Marvel also launched a comic last year led by America Chavez, a queer Latina teenager with lesbian parents.

Other film companies have not be as hesitant to include prominent LGBT characters.

Shatterstar, a bisexual, polyamorous superhero who has appeared in comics since 1991, will star alongside Ryan Reynolds’ pansexual Deadpool in the sequel to 20th Century Fox’s 2016 smash hit.

Black Lightning, on Netflix and The CW, has Anissa Pierce, a black lesbian medical student, teacher and – as it turns out – superhero by the name of Thunder.
