Caitlyn Jenner makes impassioned plea at Women’s March for trans and cis women to stand together

Caitlyn Jenner speaks at the 4th Annual Women's March LA: Women Rising at Pershing Square on January 18, 2020.

Caitlyn Jenner has attended the Women’s March, calling for transgender and cisgender women to stand together against bigotry.

The former Olympian addressed the crowd at the event in Los Angeles on Saturday.

She said: “The time is now. Women in Hollywood and across this nation are energised. It is damn time that we stop the slaughter of trans women of colour.”

Caitlyn Jenner calls on trans and cis women to ‘turn this country around’.

Jenner added: “Together as women, trans women and cis women, we have the power to influence our communities, our families, our friends and colleagues, and turn this country around!”

The I Am Cait star used to be a Republican and a Trump supporter.

Going into the 2016 US election, Jenner was a rare LGBT+ supporter of Trump’s, and continued to defend her decision to vote for him despite criticism from other trans activists.

But in October 2018 the Olympic champion performed a sharp volte-face, admitting: “Sadly, I was wrong.”

“The reality is that the trans community is being relentlessly attacked by this president,” she wrote in a Washington Post op-ed.

“My hope in him — in them — was misplaced, and I cannot support anyone who is working against our community.”

Speakers at LA Women’s March called for safety from abusers.

Other speakers at the event included Mighty Aphrodite star Mira Sorvino, one of Harvey Weinstein’s accusers.

According to Deadline, Sorvino told the crowd: “Predators who previously enjoyed immunity and the ability to hurt and destroy all people’s opportunities to work in safe and fair environments are historically being brought to justice.

“Because of the bravery of hundreds of women, men and children who told the truth, the Harvey Weinsteins, Jeffrey Epsteins, Bill Cosbys, and . Kellys are finally realising that we as a society have stopped tolerating their predation, no matter their popularity.”

Amber Heard, who previously levelled domestic violence allegations against her ex, Jonny Depp, also attended the event with her rumoured new girlfriend, Bianca Butti.
