Radio host Will Njobvu comes out in TikTok video after death threats: ‘I’m Black, gay and proud’

Capital Xtra host Will Njobvu comes out as gay

Radio host Will Njobvu has publicly revealed his sexuality after receiving death threats from followers who guessed he was gay.

The Capital Xtra presenter made the revelation in a powerful TikTok video and told fans that he had never thought he would speak about it on a public platform.

“I’m Black, gay and proud. There, I said it,” the 27-year-old stated. “I never thought in a million years that those words would leave my mouth without me feeling cringed, uncomfortable or ashamed.”

The podcast host continued: “I think there’s power in knowing who you are and owning it. The one reason why I’m making this video about me being comfortable with my sexuality is because life is too short.

“So it doesn’t matter who you are, or what gender you are, just live your truth and be authentic to you.”

The Capital Xtra presenter then revealed that he has been forced to cut off friends who weren’t supportive and explained that he no longer cared about the death threats and homophobic abuse he’s suffered in recent years.

Njobvu added: “Another reason why I’m speaking about this is that I don’t think there’s enough dialogue around the Black gay experience, about what Black gay people go through. Obviously, a lot of Black gay people who I have met during my time are very closeted and don’t want to tell people which is very down to the culture.

“People aren’t excepting of things but it’s time to speak up. For me being a Black gay guy on commercial radio and on national TV has been quite isolating, especially with not being able to speak about it, so I just wanted to get that off my chest and hopefully help people.”

He added on Twitter: “Never in a million years did I think I’d feel this comfortable speaking about my sexuality on a public platform.. but here we are. There’s power in owning who you are. Life’s too short to be anyone else but yourself ❤️??”.

Njobvu was flooded with messages of love and support from friends and fans as many praised him for being an inspiration to others.
