The dispute played out on TikTok before the launch of this year’s Love Island, which returns on Monday 1 June at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX. In screenshots shared during the exchange, Müller wrote: “Sure take pride in your name but please don’t take pride in your nasal high pitched voice”. She also posted a screenshot of Damzo’s face with the words: “Well I BEG you sort this out”.

Müller also uploaded a meme containing a rainbow flag. Users online reportedly branded her comments “homophobic” after Damzo called out her behaviour, as reported by The Sun.

In her apology video, Müller said: “I would like to say directly to the guy who is making videos about me I am sorry about my initial reaction to the content you were posting regarding me and my content.” She added: “Like I say I have just never been in this situation before so I reacted in a way that didn’t feel true to my character”.

What Damzo said in response

Damzo reposted her apology and responded positively.

In a Damzo response video, he said: “Let’s move all the jokes to the side, this is a good woman.” He also said: “An accountable woman, well done Jasmine G Muller because it’s rare to see people come online and take accountability.”

Love Island and LGBTQ+ representation

Love Island is ITV2’s flagship dating reality series, with men and women “coupling up” romantically over a period of weeks.

Only once in the UK series have a same-sex couple formed – Katie Salmon and Sophie Gradon in series two – which has drawn criticism from some fans.

However, other fans have been accused of “homophobia” over the years due to their judgement of male participants. Even this year, Ope Sowande has been scrutinised by so-called fans due to his job as a West End performer.
