Tom Daley’s husband Dustin Lance Black called police officers to a London nightclub after a dispute with an events promoter.

The couple was at Freedom, an LGBTQ+ bar in Soho, when the alleged dispute happened in the early hours of Thursday (18 August) morning.

The pair were out when reportedly had a run-in with Teddy Edwardes, star of BBC3’s The Big Proud Party Agency and founder of LICK events.

Edwardes claimed in a series of posts on Instagram that Lance Black “pretty much unprovoked” threw an “entire drink” at her during the altercation.

“I didn’t have a drink to throw back so I did choose violence, but I wasn’t that violent he got a little tap on the head,” Edwardes said.

“Tell me why he is crying outside saying it’s a targeted attack, and he’s traumatised and called the police so I have to wait for hours and now I have been cautioned and have to go in for interviews.”

Edwardes said Tom Daley was “lovely throughout” and that the Olympic gold medallist was “just trying to diffuse the situation”.

The events promoter also clarified in a later post that they met the couple while out having a good time with friends, saying they bought the pair some drinks when a “random guy” came up to the group and made a friend feel “uncomfortable”.

Edwardes reportedly asked security if they could “move them on” when Dustin Lance Black “started going mad”.

“The security came to move them on and Tom’s husband started going mad saying how welcome I’ve made him feel and that he was leaving … so I was like OK? If that’s what you want? Then got straight drink thrown in my face,” Edwardes said.

A source close Daley and Lance Black told The Sun the couple were “out on a date night” without their four-year-old son and went to the club after dinner.

The source said “someone punched Lance in the back of the head” and that person was “removed from Freedom by security who checked CCTV”.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed to The Sun that police were called to a “club in Wardour Street following reports of an altercation involving a man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s” just after midnight on Thursday.

Police said no arrests were made and enquiries continue.
