Chris Pine’s representatives have insisted claims Harry Styles spat on the actor are “foolish speculation”.

‘Spit-gate’ is the latest drama to plague the cast of Don’t Worry Darling, a 10-second clip was alleged to show Styles spitting on Pine at the project’s Venice Film Festival premiere.

The internet tore itself apart with memes, in depth analysis, and jokes at escalating tensions behind the scenes of Don’t Worry Darling.
But Pine’s representative has now released a statement, which says: “This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation.”

“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

The video in question shows Styles’ head turn over to Pine as he takes his seat at the premiere. His mouth make what could be a spitting gesture, before Pine gives an odd reaction, looking down and laughing.

As Twitter blew up, second by second slow motions were created and different camera angles sought. Some linked the theory to the rumoured Florence Pugh vs Olivia Wilde feud, all in a bid to understand what exactly could have gone down.
Spit-gate wasn’t the only drama at the premiere.

In a Q&A, director Olivia Wilde finally denied rumours of her bad blood with Pugh. Elsewhere, Pine became Pugh’s personal hype man on the red carpet and Styles kissed co-star Nick Kroll during a four minute standing ovation.

Meanwhile the internet was laughing at a viral clip of Pine seemingly zoning out during an interview with Styles, after Styles made comments about the analysis that “the movie feels like a movie”.

And while spit-gate may finally be put to rest, it seems the memes won’t end anytime soon.
