The brand new season of Doctor Who is around the corner, and thanks to new photos of Ncuti Gatwa in role, fans are more excited – and thirstier – than ever.

The second season of Doctor Who with Russell T Davies back in the driving seat returns later this month, with Gatwa once again in the titular, two-hearted role as the Fifteenth Doctor.

This season will see the crash-landing of a new companion in Belinda Chandra, played by Varada Sethu, who will travel across space in time alongside Gatwa and his existing right-hand woman, Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson).

Fans are gearing up for an array of epic new adventures, including a Eurovision-inspired episode about the “Intergalactic Song Contest”. Transgender author Juno Dawson has written the episode, and confirmed its the most expensive in Doctor Who history.

While there’s plenty for fans to get their teeth into, it’s cake that they’re fixated on right now. After the official Doctor Who Instagram page posted a new look at Gatwa as the Doctor in a very fitted spacesuit, the replies were suitably lusting, and suitably hilarious.

“We’re about to go everywhere in time and space,” the post reads, front by the photo of Gatwa in what appears to be a nylon spandex outfit.

The photo is pretty shadowy, with a flash of light conveniently highlighting Gatwa’s posterior.

In the comments, one fan asked this rib-cracking question: “Is the TARDIS big enough to handle all that cake?”

“Ncuti Gyattwa,” quipped a second fan, referring to the slang term “Gyatt”, used when someone is shocked at seeing large buttocks. The wisecrack comment has more than 5,000 likes.

“HOW CAN THAT THING FIT THROUGH THE TARDIS DOORS,” another asked, while a fourth begged: “Oh, you are NOT testing my heterosexuality like this!”

“They know their audience,” another fan joked, likely referring to Doctor Who’s huge LGBTQ+ fanbase.

Away from the eye-popping pic of Gatwa, other images included in the promo drop include the Time Lord and Belinda suited and booted for a period party, and Belinda amid a rally of red robots. It’s possible the latter image is a still from the first episode of the new season, which is entitled “The Robot Revolution”.

Alongside Ncuti Gatwa, the new season of Doctor Who will welcome an array of queer guest stars, including The Traitors host Alan Cumming, Slow Horses star Kadiff Kirwan, Coronation Street’s Charlie Condou, and British TV royalty, Rylan.

EastEnders stars Anita Dobson, Rose Ayling-Ellis and Bonnie Langford will also feature, as will Mr Loverman’s Ariyon Bakare and House of the Dragon’s Freddie Fox.

Doctor Who season two will be available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK on 12 April. The show will also be available to stream internationally on Disney+.
