The Last of Us nails super gay fan favourite Ellie and Dina scenes in episode 4: ‘Actually crying’
The Last of Us episode four has recreated an iconic queer scene from the game (HBO)
Episode four of The Last of Us, season two, features several fan-favourite queer scenes from the game – and viewers are not coping well.
Starring Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey as Ellie Williams, the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us has already sent viewers unfamiliar with the show’s source material reeling as it executed the game’s most brutal twist, killing off Joel at the hands of a very angry Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever) and a golf club.
Two episodes later, and the show is well underway with Ellie’s brutal question for revenge – the cycle of violence that drives the 2020 Naught Dog game forward to Seattle and beyond.
With episode four, “Day One”, Ellie and Dina (Isabela Merced) arrive in a post-apocalyptic version of the Pacific Northwest city in their search for the much-larger-than-initially-thought militia, the WLF (Washington Liberation Front).
As in the video game, the pair come across long-abandoned shops and buildings, including a music store.
In the game, a fan favourite cut scene involves Ellie playing an acoustic rendition of A-ha’s “Take On Me” on the guitar to Dina as the pair’s relationships evolves from friends to more – and viewers have reacted to the show’s recreation with an appropriate level of gay hysteria.

One user wrote “I’m actually crying,” in a reply to a clip of the scene posted by the official HBO account for The Last of Us.
While another noted that the scene is “probably one of the few times where the game lets you relax and everything is fine,” a third added: “Bella ate and Isabela really sold the puppy eyes. Your honour, they’re in LOVE LOVE.”
Viewers have also found humour in another moment from the episode where Ellie and Dina make their way through Seattle’s gay district – with no idea what all the rainbows mean.
“Kind of ironic they decided to settle there. W/o knowing they’re part of the squad,” one commented.

And in the episode’s most dramatic twist, the pair find themselves in the Seattle subway with a whole bunch of Infected, and Ellie is bitten again – though unbeknownst to Dina, she is of course immune to the cordyceps fungus ravaging the States.
The episode culminates with Dina turning her gun on Ellie and thinking that she’s going to have to kill her. Ellie reveals her big secret and the pair kiss properly for the first time, proving to be just about the weirdest foreplay we’ve ever seen.
“THE DELLIE [Dina and Ellie] MOMENT WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR,” wrote one viewer calmly, later adding, “DELLIE SUPREMACY”.

“I know the conservatives are gonna be mad,” one other viewer wrote gleefully – especially when it’s revealed that Dina is pregnant by her ex-boyfriend Jesse (Young Mazino) at the end of the episode.
The Last of Us airs on HBO on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET and on Mondays in the UK on Sky Atlantic and Now. It is also available to stream on Max.
