Taylor Zakhar Perez doesn’t know much about Red, White & Royal Blue 2 – and there’s a hilarious reason why.

In 2023, Matthew López’s movie introduced the steamy, heartfelt story by Casey McQuiston to Prime Video subscribers, and beyond. The film became one of the streaming site’s most-watched films for several weeks, and also became a viral sensation.

Perez plays Alex Claremont-Diaz in the film, the bisexual son of Ellen Claremont, the first female president of the US (played by Uma Thurman), across from Nicholas Galitzine’s Prince Henry.

The actor is set to return for the confirmed follow-up movie alongside Galitzine. Despite previously weighing in on the sequel, the star has admitted he wanted to keep news of a follow-up film largely locked away from himself for a reason.

He joked to Elle Magazine in a new interview: “I purposefully said, ‘Please do not share with me anything until we are ready to prep it, because I want plausible deniability.’

“I have not read a script, but I hear it’s very good,” he said, also adding that his role in Red, White & Royal Blue “was really special”.

“People in their 60s and 70s tell me…they wish they had this kind of movie when they were younger. So this isn’t a project I take for granted,” he told the outlet.

And it seems that the upcoming film will see some of its original stars returning. Fellow cast member, Sarah Shahi, confirmed to Collider in February that she is returning for the sequel as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Zarah Bankston.

“Yes, I actually am returning for the sequel. Zahra is back,” she told the outlet.

Producer Greg Berlanti told Variety last September that the script was nearing completion. He said at the time: “What’s so great is that it feels like the natural next step in the journey of these characters.”
