Lesbian icon Reneé Rapp has gagged us all with her live debut of her new single, “Leave Me Alone” at the 2025 AMAs.

Reneé Rapp made her award show performance debut at the American Music Awards (AMAs), and it was a show-stopping moment as she stunned the audience with “Leave Me Alone.”

The 25-year-old singer-songwriter performed the first single from her highly anticipated second album, Bite Me, leaving sapphic fans in awe, with some declaring it “Reneé Rapp summer.”

Introduced by her friend and online star Jake Shane, the Mean Girls alum kicked off her performance in a graffiti-covered bathroom stall with three of her dancers, before kicking down the walls and stepping out on the stage at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.

Reneé was met with a screaming crowd, a troupe of dancers and strobing lights.

She then stepped onto a second stage to be beside her band, who were all wearing white T-shirts embroidered with “I WOULD DIE FOR RENEÉ RAPP” in all caps. Same, tbf.

Reacting to Reneé Rapp’s appearance and performance at the AMAs, her fans praised the star’s mighty vocals and shared their excitement for her upcoming music.

“Girl don’t want boyfriends, they want reneé rapp,” another fan posted with a photo of Reneé on the purple AMAs red carpet wearing a dramatic blazer dress with a deep V-neck and front slit.

Reneé’s fan base was left feeling flustered by her dance moves and lying down leg splits, which she managed to pull off while still nailing her notes.

“God is real and her name is reneé rapp,” one fan declared, a rebranding of Charli XCX’s BRAT summer.

Another wrote: “OH RENEE RAPP THE MOTHER THAT YOU ARE.” Their post included an image of Reneé on the floor, mid-performance, surrounded by her dancers.

She was also captured backstage, excitedly jumping up and down, hugging and kissing her partner and guitarist, Towa Bird, after the performance.

The pair hard-launched their relationship at the Oscars in March 2024 and have since been inseparable, even sharing an on-stage kiss.

The performance has only mounted anticipation for Rapp’s upcoming sophomore album, Bite Me is scheduled for release on August 1.

“Leave Me Alone” teases a hit of an album, with the track overflowing with cheeky, biting lyricism.

Her last album, Snow Angel, was released in 2023 and “Leave Me Alone” references this wait: “Manager called me, said, ‘Where’s that single?’/ Leave me alone, babe, I wanna have fun/ ‘Oh you’re breaking up, babe, I don’t got no signal!’”

The track also references her stint on HBO’s The Sex Life of College Girls, on which Rapp appeared as lesbian character Leighton Murray for two seasons. In season three, she appeared in a few episodes before departing the show.

It doesn’t sound like she left on the best terms, with Reneé singing: “I took my sex life with me, now the show ain’t f**king/ Leave me alone, b***h, I wanna have fun.”

Fellow queer artist Billie Billie Eilish also a good night at the AMAs. The “bad guy” singer won all seven awards that she was nominated for.

Billie Eilish won for artist of the year, album of the year, song of the year, favorite touring artist, favorite female pop artist, favorite pop album and favorite pop song.

Elsewhere, Doechii won Social Song of the Year for “Anxiety.” Meanwhile, Lady Gaga claimed Collaboration of the Year and Favourite Music Video for her duet with Bruno Mars on “Die with a Smile.”

Mother Monster was also voted Favorite Dance/Electronic Artist by fans. Megan Thee Stallion was voted Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist while Beyoncé took the gongs for Favorite Country Album for Cowboy Carter and Favorite Female Country Artist.

Reneé Rapp’s Bite Me is out on August 1.
