“LIFE IS WORTH LIVING” according to fans of Interview with the Vampire after the news that season three has begun production, although its proposed release date is still unclear.
The series follows Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) a vampire telling his life story to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) for a memoir.
It was announced at the end of June that the show based on Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles had started working on the third season.
The show’s Instagram shared a single image of a film slate, a tambourine, a microphone, and a guitar set against a large speaker.
It’s not much, but it was enough to send fans of the LGBTQ+ series into a veritable frenzy. “Do you know what this post just did to my spirit and my bowels,” wrote one potentially over-sharing person.
“SO EXCITED!!!” wrote another fan while someone else put, “this is the only thing keeping me going.”
We hope that’s not the case as we’re not likely to get any new episodes until 2026, and no information about a potential release date has been forthcoming.
The second season aired last year and was renewed for a third immediately after the much-acclaimed season’s finale.
In season two, Louis’ romance with fellow vampire, Armand (Assad Zaman) was complicated by the reveal that Armand had been lying to Louis and had in fact not saved his lover from death, but rather Louis’ previous partner Lestat (Sam Reid).
Louis and Lestat reunited while Molloy published his book against Louis’ wishes and was turned into a vampire by Armand.
Showrunner Rolin Jones teased what we could expect from the show’s third season, telling Entertainment Weekly last year: “There [are] a lot of loose ends.”
What do we know about Interview with the Vampire season three?
Focusing on the relationship between Louis and Lestat, Jones said it is at the heart of Interview with the Vampire. “It is very clear in the later books that this is not a relationship that gets thrown away.
“This is actually a central relationship. We’re just beginning to see the glimmer of forgiveness and accountability in that last scene between the two of them.”
Jones also touched on Molloy and Armand and their dynamic saying, “We would be very, very poor dramatists if they were never in scenes together again. We just needed to set the stage for a lot of new writing for Louis. There’s new writing to be done for that character.”
Interview with the Vampire is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
