Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is the latest celebrity considering fleeing Donald Trump’s America.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! presenter has headed up the series for 22 years, and has revealed to The Sarah Silverman Podcast that he has provisions in place should he want to leave the US.

“A lot of people I know are thinking about where they are going to get citizenship,” Silverman, who previously dated Kimmel in the early 2000s, said.

Kimmel replied, “I did get Italian citizenship!”

“You do? Oh, that’s amazing,” said Silverman.

Italian news agency Ansa reported that the presenter obtained his citizenship in the country earlier this year. He discussed his heritage at the Los Angeles consulate party in June, telling attendees his maternal great-grandparents moved from Naples to New York after the Ischia earthquake of 1883 devastated their hometown of Casamicciola.

His revelation comes after a series of fellow celebrities have also fled the States in recent moments, including Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, who moved to the UK and are now considering re-marrying there and Rosie O’Donnell, who moved to Ireland with her child.

Trans icon Laverne Cox also publicly discussed moving following Trump’s return to office, but later added that she “refuses to be a victim”.

“As bad as you thought it was going to be, it’s so much worse,” Kimmel, who has publicly denounced Trump’s presidency on his series, reflected.

“It’s just unbelievable,” he said. “I feel like it’s probably even worse than he [Trump] would like it to be.”

He also noted that even right-wing pundits like Joe Rogan have rejected the president’s actions on tackling immigration in the country, despite having previously supporting Trump.

“I think the door needs to stay open, if you change your mind… If you want to admit you’re wrong, that’s so hard to do and so rare to do, you are welcome,” Kimmel said.
