Taylor Swift has announced her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, after a mysterious countdown on the singer’s website.

The Tortured Poets Department has shut its doors once and for all, because Taylor Swift is officially in a new era.

As confirmed by Swift’s official website today, Swift’s twelfth studio album (or, as fans have been referring to it, TS12) has not only been confirmed – but also named.

The Life of a Showgirl does not yet have a release date (though pre-orders on Swift’s website reveal that vinyls of the record will be shipped before 13 October), or even a confirmed cover, but what are details when a brand new Taylor Swift album is on the way?

No lead single has been announced either.

The announcement was preceded by a countdown on Swift’s official website, with text under a timer reading: “Expires August 12 at 12:12AM ET”.

The countdown itself followed a quickly-viral post on X from Swiftie stan account ‘Taylor Nation’, who on 11 Aug posted four photos of Swift in orange from various Eras Tour shows and the caption: “

Swift also confirmed her new album while appearing on the New Heights podcast with partner Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason Kelce.

“So I wanted to show you something,” Swift told the pair in the podcast’s newest episode.

The pop titan then revealed a mint green briefcase with her initials on the front, before saying: “This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl.”

Swift’s most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, followed several re-recordings of her older albums after a dispute over the singer’s masters.

She has thus far re-recorded albums Fearless, Red, Speak Now and 1989, all as “Taylor’s Version”. Though many fans assumed that a Reputation re-recording would be the next release from Swift, she shut those hopes down in a lengthy statement to her social media.

The Life of a Showgirl is also the first musical offering from Swift since the culmination of her record breaking tour, The Eras Tour.
