Sarah Jessica Parker has backed the And Just Like That finale, despite its divisive reception. “It honours the audience,” the actress said.
Warning: And Just Like That season three spoilers ahead.
The controversial Sex and the City (SATC) spin-off series has wrapped on its third season, which also marks the last-ever season of the SATC revival after showrunner Michael Patrick King announced the series’ end at the beginning of August.
The third installment follows Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) and Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) “navigating the complicated reality of life, love, sex, and friendship in their 50s in New York City”.
Despite the first two seasons of And Just Like That receiving a pretty icy response from fans of the franchise, viewers hailed season three for reigniting its “old magic” once again. Nonetheless, all good (or bad) things must come to an end.
One And Just Like That finale scene forever scarring viewers’ minds depicted a bathroom mishap after one of Mia’s friends clogs the toilet, the culprit of which is actually shown on screen (don’t say we didn’t warn you).
“The series finale of And Just Like That genuinely made me run to the bathroom and vomit and i think that’s such a testament to its legacy,” wrote one fan on X.
“Somehow, the And Just Like That finale was perfectly awful enough to be a fitting end. It was literal s***. I’ll miss this show,” echoed another.
The #AndJustLikeThat series finale is beyond BITTERSWEET, because it feels like the show just found its footing and rhythm and excitement and purpose — only to be axed because it got good too late… ⏰ pic.twitter.com/9pWHrjuFoK

However, Carrie’s departure from the series failed to leave a dry eye in sight. After clicking backspace on her novel draft and, metaphorically, on her former love life, she wrote: The woman realized she was not alone—she was on her own.”
The writer then started dancing in the hallway, wearing a modern-day take on her iconic tutu which twirled around her legs. Cue the original Sex and the City theme song, marking an homage to the 1998 series.
In a Friday (14 August) interview with Vanity Fair following the series finale, Parker said the choice to end the series felt “right and good”.

“I feel really good about the principle by which we’re making this decision,” the actress told the outlet. “It’s hard for a lot of people to understand if they see it doing really well. It’s an agonising thing to say out loud, with Michael in a room, sitting across from me…”
She also noted that she believes her character’s ending “honours the audience. It doesn’t just exploit them in some way.”
Seasons one to three of And Just Like That are available to stream on HBO and Prime Video.
