The Celebrity Traitors is underway and several LGBTQ+ stars, including Tom Daley, are taking part in the ultimate game of betrayal and suspicion, but what do we know about his husband, who he married a few years ago?

The former diver and knitting enthusiast is joined in the game by Clare Balding, Alan Carr, Stephen Fry, and Cat Burns.

Also in The Celebrity Traitors cast are Charlotte ChurchPaloma Faith, Joe Wilkinson and Lucy Beaumont. Kate Garraway, Jonathan Ross, Joe Marler, and Mark Bonnar also join. Nick Mohammed, Ruth Codd, Tameka Empson and Celia Imrie, David Olusoga and Niko Omilana round out the cast.

Daley has been a mainstay on our screens since he debuted at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He came out in 2013, announcing he’d been dating someone. That person turned out to be Dustin Lance Black, Daley’s now-husband and parent to his two children, Robbie and Phoenix Rose.

Where did Dustin Lance Black grow up?

Lance Black grew up in a Mormon household in San Antonio, Texas before moving to Salinas, California. He has said in the past that he struggled with his sexuality because of his Mormon upbringing.

What does he do?

Lance Black is most famous for writing the Oscar-winning screenplay to Milk, the biopic about the gay rights activist, Harvey Milk. A producer and director as well, he has also notably written screenplays for the series, Under the Banner of Heaven.

He also works as an activist and was one of the directors of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, an organisation set up to fight for marriage equality in the United States.


How did Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black meet?

The pair have shared that they first met at a dinner and initially managed a long-distance relationship being on either side of the Atlantic. Having lived for a time together in London, the family is now located in Los Angeles.

Where and when did Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black get married?

The pair married in 2017 at Bovey Castle, about 30 minutes from Daley’s home town of Plymouth. They were engaged from 2015.


What is the age gap between Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black?

There is a 20 year age gap between the two men. Daley is 31 and Lance Black is 51 at the time of writing with the former celebrating his birthday in May and the latter in June.

Both men have publicly discussed the age-gap in the past. Speaking to with Us Weekly in June 2025, Daley said the gap “one hundred percent” felt like less as time had gone on. “It’s funny because the people that know us know that I’m the more mature person that kinds of runs the show in the house,” he continued.

In 2018, Lance Black said, “There’s a constant renewal to our relationship and I’ve never experienced anything like it. It’s really exciting.”


How many children do Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black have?

The pair have two sons, Robbie who was born in 2018, and Phoenix Rose, who was born in 2023. Both were born via surrogacy, for which the pair has received hate. Responding to some of the backlash Lance Black said, it hadn’t been “an easy path.” Both men have also been open about the “long process” they went through. 

The two are very private about their children, refusing to share pictures on social media that show their faces. Lance Black has also discussed raising their children without gender “limits.” He told the Some Families podcast in 2020 they aren’t “setting these bizarre limits based on these [gender stereotypical] constructs that are completely unnatural.”
