Trans trailblazer Dylan Mulvaney is no stranger to being iconic, and her birthday gives us the perfect excuse to celebrate her.
The stage star has gone from strength to strength after she first entered the scene with her now-infamous “Days of Girlhood” social media series documenting her transition.
Today (29 December) marks the icon’s 29th birthday, and in honour of her role as a trans activist, we’ve highlighted some of her best moments from this year.
Her debut book Paper Doll: Notes from a Late Bloomer, which is a collection of journal entries from her first-year transition, was released on 11 March this year.

That same month, Mulvaney recalled her former job at Lush cosmetics as a “safe” space for her “awkward, feminine 16-year-old” self to feel “accepted”.
Mulvaney partnered with her former workplace to collaborate on her own bath bomb, aptly titled “Late Bloomer”. The limited-edition bath bomb featured “feel-good florals, gorgeous pink luster and Softy’s crisp rose and subtle citrus perfume”.
In April, Mulvaney revealed that prior to her transition, she auditioned for the role of Glee’s Kurt and Jake Pucherman – the latter being a fairly ‘macho’ character eventually portrayed by Jacob Artist.
“I might be the only one that auditioned for both young Kurt and Jake, but what I definitely confirm is I’m the only trans woman that auditioned for both young Kurt and Jake,” she revealed during an appearance on the podcast That’s What You Really Missed.

Mulvaney, who starred in We Aren’t Kids Anymore at London’s Savoy Theatre this year, spoke to PinkNews in April about her want to one day play Elle Woods in a Legally Blonde the musical.
The actress has long made it clear that to play Elle Woods in a version of the beloved 2001 comedy, which famously starred Reese Witherspoon in the titular role, is a bucket list wish.
In 2024, she told IMDb that it would be “powerful” to see a trans person take on such a well-known role.
“I wanna play Elle and have maybe a trans Emmett and a trans Paulette,” she said.
This year also saw the trans icon joke about “hard launching” her relationship with her longtime friend, Joe Locke, on social media.
In July, the pair shared a joint instagram post in which they joked about celebrating their “first couples shoot”.
